UNBRIDLED SPIRITS (BOURBON, BEER, AND WINE)

“Unbridled Spirit” is the state motto, and I think you can guess why. Camp Norwood is located in Kentucky where 95% of the world’s bourbon is produced. Many of those distilleries are located less than 90 minutes away with the “birthplace of bourbon” located 15 miles away in Georgetown. There are also over 20 different breweries and 4 separate wineries located within a 30 minute drive. While you’re in town, we hope you get a chance to sample some of the worlds finest.

Our favs:

Four Roses

Our first experience with bourbon was the “Taste of History Tour” which is available for $24 . A no frills experience with a personal touch. Less than 30 minutes. This experience opened our eyes and taste buds to bourbon.

Woodford Reserve

A fancy sitting room with popped collars and a huge stone fireplace. Beautiful drive through horse country to get there. Great gift shop without needing the tour.

Wild Turkey

Every employee seemed to gush about the owner and we like that.

Country Boy

You’ll find this beer served at every local joint. The brewery is located near the Toyata plant and serves flights and bar food. Favorite flavors are Cougar Bait (american blonde ale ) and Shotgun Wedding (brown ale aged with vanilla beans). Ask your server for a free tour and they’ll walk you around.

The Wine Project

Located in historic downtown Georgetown, this cute lil wine shop has quite a selection of wines from around the world at reasonable prices. A $12 tasting and great conversation is worth the trip alone. We have yet to visit Lover’s Leap, Elk Creek, or Equus wineries, but when we do, we’ll be sure to post our favorite here.

Carson’s

When The Morgans first arrived at Lexington to finalize purchasing a property in Kentucky, they had brunch at the award winning Carson’s. Who would’ve known then that camp counselor, Chrissy, would be working at their Andover Forest location just 5 years later? If you’re looking for a limited allocated bourbon to go alongside your lobster truffle fries with bernaise sauce, this is the place. Voted one of the great bourbon bars in America with 2 unique locations. Reservations requested. Brunch is a must have.
